Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Jacob's Well (Ivirs City)

DIRECTIONS: From Cold Creek, continue north for 1.5 miles. Bear left and follow for 6.5 miles. Exit left and follow for 1.5 miles to Jacob's Well.

"Jacob's Well was a small way station for the Pony Express, although it was not originally on the route. Most likely the station served the line for only a few months. The station, named for General Frederick Jacobs, was a small stone cabin. A well was dug nearby to provide for humans and animals. During its existence, the station also served the Hill Beachy stage line to Hamilton and other White Pine camps. In 1863 the station was enlarged and meals and lodging were offered to travelers. The charge for a meal and a night's sleep was $1. In addition, a telegraph office was opened. The station continued to be active through 1869, serving the Overland Stage route. Some minor ore deposits were discovered near here, and a group of local prospectors organized the Huntington Creek Mining District, but nothing substantial was ever produced and the district had no recorded production. Today there is virtually nothing to mark the Jacob's Well site. Only a careful search will reveal some scattered stones remaining from the station. The well, now collapsed, is located nearby. "
