Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Illipah (Moorman Ranch) (Dutch Jake Ranch)

DIRECTIONS: From Ely, take U.S. 50 west for 31 miles to Illipah.

"Illipah is the present name of a ranching complex that has had a rich history for well over 100 years. The ranch was originally established by Jake Medzgar, also known as Dutch Jake, soon after the Hamilton boom began. Captain William C. Moorman, a Confederate veteran, purchased the ranch from Medzgar and set up a toll road and tollgate along the "Narrows" heading from White River to Hamilton. Moorman, his wife, Pearl, and their five children made Moorman Ranch a prosperous venture. A post office opened here on March 22, 1898, with Pearl Moorman serving as postmistress. Although the post office closed on November 30, 1913, Moorman Ranch has continued to be an active ranch. Buildings from the 1800s remain and are in use at Illipah."
