Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Cold Creek (Cupperville) (Simonsen)

DIRECTIONS: From Eureka, take U.S. 50 east for 14.5 miles. Exit left and follow good road for 33 miles to Cold Creek.

"Cold Creek is one of the many long-lived Newark Valley ranches. The ranch was established in the mid-1870s, and on April 7, 1879, a post office was bestowed upon it. Nicholas Simonsen served as postmaster, and Cold Creek became the mail distribution point for the valley's ranches. In the early 1900s, during the mining boom in nearby Joy, Cold Creek was known as Cupperville. A school was active at Cold Creek for many years. On March 28, 1913, the post office was renamed Simonsen. The office closed on May 15, 1936. Cold Creek continues to be an active ranch. Several of the original buildings remain."
