Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Cleve Creek (Kolcheck District)

DIRECTIONS: From Cleveland Ranch, head south for 3 miles. Exit right and follow for 7 miles. At fork, bear left and follow for 1.5 miles to Cleve Creek.

"Cleve Creek was the site of a small mining camp that sprang up in 1923 after the discovery of the Kolcheck Mine. A small 4-ton amalgamation and concentration mill was built, and a camp of 15 people formed. The mine operated on a small scale until 1926, when it closed after producing about $15,000. The mine was idle until 1951 when it was retimbered and production resumed. During the next five years, 235 tons of gold ore and 32 tons of tungsten ore were shipped. No production has taken place since the late 1950s. Today only one wooden building remains, along with some mine ruins. A point of interest along Cleve Creek are two sets of Indian pictographs, one group at the fork of Cleve Creek and North Fork of Cleve Creek, the other about a mile and a quarter farther up Cleve Creek. Camping areas are located all along Cleve Creek, but the road is quite rough and includes creek crossings, which, during spring runoff or after summer cloudbursts, make driving hazardous."
