Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Babylon

DIRECTIONS: From Hamilton, head north for 4 miles, bearing left at 0.5 mile. Exit left and follow for 1.25 mile. Exit left again and follow for 2 miles to Babylon.

"Babylon was one of many short-lived camps that sprang up in the hills around Hamilton during the late 1860s. The camp formed in summer 1868 after the Conover Brothers Mine was discovered. A townsite was platted in March 1869. Babylon was an extremely cold camp because of its high altitude, and the miners were forced to keep fires going even in the middle of summer. Only a handful of prospectors ever lived here, and nothing more substantial than dugouts was ever constructed. Babylon was abandoned in the fall of 1869, and the White Pine News reported cynically, "Babylon has Fallen!" Today only sunken holes mark the sites of the camp's few buildings."
