Please
remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns
& Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides,
and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings,
and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans
change. |
BELMONT
Location:
From Tonopah head east on Hwy 6 for 5.5 miles, turn north on Nevada
376 for 13.3 miles. Turn east onto Nevada 82 for 28 miles to Belmont.
Belmont was once the county seat
for Nye County. What once used to be the Nye County Courthouse
still stands today. After the decline in mining and population,
Tonopah became the county seat. Still to this day Belmont has
residents who will tell you of it's wild and sometimes bizarre
past. Stories of ghosts that still inhabit the area will amaze
and fascinate you.
Belmont also boasted
of great mining. Many stamp mills were constructed in the Belmont
area. The ruins of Monitor-Belmont mill are still visible from
the road leading into the town. Although not much is left of the
mill, you can still see one of the stacks and other parts of the
mill. Heading North out of town you will find the ruins of the
Combination Mill.
The town of Belmont
has many old buildings for you to view. But unfortunately vandal's
and the weather have destroyed many of them. The Cosmopolitan
Saloon and Dance Hall, banks, boarding houses all lined the streets
of Belmont. You could spend many hours exploring the town of Belmont.
