Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Walters

DIRECTIONS: From Vaughn's, continue north on Nevada 305 for 5.5 miles to Walters.

"Walters was both a stop and a recreational spot on the Nevada Central Railroad. The station and siding were active from 1880 to 1938. The station was named for William Walters, a prominent nearby rancher. Walters was the site of the "Austin Picnic Train", which brought weekend picnickers to enjoy a relaxing day in the grassy areas near the station. A baseball diamond was laid out, and the rapidly growing sport of baseball became part of the weekend festivities. Today the solid stone station still stands, one of the better remaining station houses on the old railroad. Unfortunately, the stately building has been the victim of graffiti vandals."
