Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Hot Springs (Watts)

DIRECTIONS: From Battle Mountain, head south on Nevada 305 for 35 miles. Exit right and follow for 0.25 mile to Hot Spring.

"Hot Springs was a stage stop during the 1870s. The stage station was located at the site of sixty hot springs. The camp took on additional importance in 1880 when the Nevada Central Railroad was completed and a ten-car siding along with a small railroad station was built here. Matt Smith ran the stop and started the Hot Springs Ranch. A wood frame house, which still stands, was built, as well as a barn, stone cabins, and corrals. A one-room schoolhouse was constructed in 1925, and children from Antelope Valley ranches came to school here until 1934. Hot Springs was abandoned in 1938 when the railroad folded and the rails were pulled up. Today original buildings still stand. The hot springs, which gave the site its name, have mostly gone dry."
