Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

White (Bailey Ranch)

DIRECTIONS: From Romano, continue north for 2.5 miles to White.

"White was a small ranching settlement formed by James White in the 1880s. While not more than 15 people ever lived at White, the settlement was important in the lives of the people living in Diamond Valley. A post office opened here on July 31, 1890, with White acting as postmaster. This allowed ranchers and miners in the valley the luxury of not having to travel to Eureka to get their mail. In 1899 Robert Bailey bought the ranch, but he did not want to continue the post office. The office at White closed and was reopened two years later in nearby Romano. The ranch continued in operation until the 1960s, but it is abandoned today. The remains at White are quite extensive and show the style of the turn-of-the-century ranching operation. A unique relic at the site is an old wooden slaughter wheel, an item rarely seen today."
