Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Sulphur Springs Station

DIRECTIONS: From Romano, head south for 3.5 miles to Sulphur Springs.

"Some controversy surrounds the origin of Sulphur Springs Station. While the station is purported to have been a Pony Express stop, no evidence exists that actually shows it was on the original Pony Express line. The station was built in July 1861, in preparation for the opening of the Overland Stage. Since Sulphur Springs Station was located very close to the Pony Express route, it is likely that the riders did occasionally use the spot for horse changes and rest stops before traveling over the mountains to Roberts Creek. The station served the Overland Stage until 1869 when it was abandoned. Today a portion of a log wall and small stone foundations are all that's left to mark the site."
