Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

Romano

DIRECTIONS: From Garden Pass, exit right on sandy road heading into Diamond Valley. Follow for 7 miles to the Romano Ranch.

"Romano never was more than a ranching settlement, and its peak population was fewer than 20. The ranch, however, was very important to Diamond Valley. A post office opened here on February 24, 1902, with Frank Romano as postmaster, and remained functional until August 31, 1914. The post office reopened on February 3, 1919, but closed for good on February 15, 1929. The post office served as the mail depot for all the ranches in Diamond Valley, thus saving the residents the trip into Eureka to get their mail. The ranch continued to operate after the post office closed and was abandoned only within the last twenty years. The main ranch house remains, and although run down, it still presents some beautiful lines. The view of Diamond Valley is impressive, and a visit to the site will be quite enjoyable."
