Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings, are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings, and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

WILKINS

Located 25 1/2 miles north of Wells on U.S. 93.

Wilkins is located in the Thousand Springs Valley. Although mining was never successful, Wilkins was an important stage stop, railroad station and trading post in the 1870s, lasting almost 100 years. Ranching has always been the main focus in the Thousand Springs Area. James (Jimmy) Stewart was for a time part owner of one of the large ranches. The California Trail ran through this valley. Some buildings may still exist, but have been vandalized.

Please take care whenever exploring Nevada's old towns.
