Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

HALLECK

Located 19 1/2 miles east of Elko, 1 mile south of I-80.

1869 the Central Pacific Railroad siding supplying Fort Halleck was named Halleck. At the turn of the century the town had a saloon, hotels, stores, a post office and a population near 150. Fort Halleck was closed in 1866, but the town still grew serving area cattle ranchers. By 1915 most of the people had left and only a few buildings remain at the siding.
