Please remember to exercise caution when exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns & Mining Camps. Open shafts, drifts going into mountainsides, and old buildings are all DANGEROUS. Be aware of your surroundings and let someone know where you are, especially if your plans change.

FORT HALLECK

Located on private property 11 miles south of the Halleck exit on I-80, about 6 miles down Nevada State Route 227 headed toward the scenic town of Lamoille.

Fort Halleck was started in 1867 to protect workers for the Central Pacific Railroads. It wasn't until 1869 when the siding named Halleck was finished, that enough building supplies arrived to expand camp. In 1869 the name was changed to Fort Halleck and it had about 20 buildings. In 1886 Fort Halleck was abandoned and the buildings were looted, sold, and moved. Please be sure if you are wanting to explore the site of Fort Halleck, that you seek permission from the land owner first.
