2002 YZ250 Information

HEAR THAT?
IT’S YOUR BUDDIES CRYING... "UNCLE."
When it comes to summing up the YZ250’s superiority, it’s hard to pinpoint this two-stroke missile’s greatest strength. It’s that good at everything. Both Cycle News and Motocross
Action thought so, awarding the 2001 YZ "250 of the Year" honors, making that two straight crowning seasons from the latter publication.
In the bar-banging world of motocross, however, being the best is never good enough. So that’s why we’ve retooled the YZ250 for 2002.
An all-new, twin-spar frame boasting greater lateral rigidity and lighter weight delivers sharper handling thanks to minimal flex.
Revamped suspension settings and an all-new, lighter-weight swingarm means more compliant damping action for a smoother ride.
A modified YPVS power valve and all-new carbon fiber reed-valve petals now put out harder-hitting low-end power and crisper throttle response across the entire
RPM range.A larger, 245mm rear disc ensures even stronger stopping power. And all-new, ergonomically honed bodywork provides riders with optimal freedom of movement. The YZ250. Call it perfection, in blue and white.

2002 YZ125 Information

LIFE’S A BERM. THEN YOU FLY.
"Is there anything this bike doesn’t do well?" Cycle News asked just before naming the YZ125 its "2001 125cc MX Shootout" winner. Well, if five 125 SX crowns and six straight MXA "125 of the Year" awards is any indication, the answer is no. (That’s two years in a row, by the way, that Yamaha has swept every major class in MXA’s "Bike of the Year" honors.)
High praise and laurels, however, are not something anyone can afford to rest upon. So, like its 250cc sibling, the YZ125 is a completely new animal for 2002.
Starting with an all-new frame that boosts lateral rigidity while reducing weight to deliver minimal flex for improved, sharper handling.
Reshaped exhaust and scavenging porting deliver harder-hitting low- and top-end power and higher over-rev capacity. A brand-new, close-ratio 5-speed transmission helps reduce weight while ensuring maximum hook-up and corner-exiting punch.

2002 YZ85 Information

DOMINATION .
IT’S CORPORATE POLICY.
Leadership is something we take very seriously. In fact, you could call it our birthright. That’s why we’re firm believers that you’re never too young to start winning.
And there ’s no better way to do it than aboard the all-new-for-2002 YZ85.
That’s right — the mightiest mini on the planet is not only all-new, but more powerful to boot, starting with a completely new liquid-cooled, 85cc, crankcase reed-inducted, two-stroke single boasting reshaped scavenging porting for greater mid-range and top-end hit. Now add a bigger- bore 28mm Keihin flat-slide carb and all-new digital CD ignition to ensure right-now throttle response and ultra-precise spark across the RPM range. A smooth-shifting, 6-speed gearbox and involute spline-equipped clutch delivering instant hook-up with seamless shifting under power.
An all-new, super-rigid frame and adjustable, YZ250/125 spec front and rear suspension for razor-sharp handling with minimal frame flex.
And completely redesigned bodywork that allows a rider maximum freedom of movement and weight transfer.
